Little has changed at Zum Schusterjungen since its doors first opened in 1989, the grub is still traditional East German, the interior still echoes a bygone era, and the place is still almost always full. If you're going make sure you check in early, there are only a handful of tables, and they're in rather high demand.

Don't fear the schnitzel!

Schnitzel is of course on the menu, so is the Berlin specialty Eisbein - a chunk of pork that gets its name from the ice skates Berliners used to make out of the bone during the winter, and of course Brakartoffeln (pan-fried potatoes), Klöße and Nudeln.

There's little chance you'll hear anything but German being spoken in the restaurant, as it's not in a touristy part of town, and the exterior is rather uninspired - of course, it's East Berlin.
