One block away from the building is Mauer Park, which used to be part of the death strip section of the Berlin Wall, once lined with anti-tank mines and machine gun nests, that also hosts a market now every Sunday.

The arpartments at Arkona are all clean and cosy, and have either a shower or bath, cable TV (with US channels) and are strictly non-smoking. Meaning you won't inherit that nasty clogged artery smell if the previous guests have been puffing away. Each individual apartment has its own kitchen, and there's also a bakery within the same building on the first floor that opens early every day.
