Vietnamese food has always been a subject of contention in Berlin, there have always been a lot of Vietnamese living in East Berlin - they were originally invited as guest workers by the East German government. Most of the Chinese, Japanese and other Asia restaurants have Vietnamese owners, but the number of Vietnamese kitchens had always been low.

Say hello to healthy, crisp, well prepared food in a warm atmosphere

Vietnamese food has always been a subject of contention in Berlin, there have always been a lot of Vietnamese living in East Berlin - they were originally invited as guest workers by the East German government. Most of the Chinese, Japanese and other Asia restaurants have Vietnamese owners, but the number of Vietnamese kitchens had always been low.

That was until Ms. Vuong opened up on Neu Schoenhauser Strasse, then it became ok to sell this grub, without fear of mud slinging. Vuong has been open for a good long time now, and sunk into the realms of infamacy, but also succumbed to the McDonalds effect of success. The food has suffered, the atmosphere become stale, and the staff deal with customers in an impatient and frustrating way.

Luckily only a stone's throw away is the comparitavely tranquil Good Morning Vietnam. Tranquil not because of it's lack of custom, it is understandably almost always busy, but because of the easy-going, pleasant approach of the staff. Willing to slow down their tempo to that of the customers rather than try and dictate how fast you eat, and how fast you scram.

The concept is the realisation of boss Nguyen Ngoc-Duc's grand plan. A vietnamese restaurant that champions Vietnamese food, without bastardisation. The food is authentic style, direct from both city and countryside, and served in a distinctly unique atmosphere of French chanson music and Ella Fitzgerald tracks.

Try the Vietnamese vodka, polished off with a fine Viet' coffee.
