Constructed to co-incide with the arrival of the 1936 Summer Olympics, the Olympia Stadiom is everything that Nazi architecture loved to be. Big, bold, and rather overpowering. Berlin's very own Hertha FC now call the stadium their home, when they're not kicking around you can visit the stadium to tour about for a small fee.
Constructed to co-incide with the arrival of the 1936 Summer Olympics, the Olympia Stadiom is everything that Nazi architecture loved to be. Big, bold, and rather overpowering. Berlin's very own Hertha FC now call the stadium their home, when they're not kicking around you can visit the stadium to tour about for a small fee.
It's one of the few remainining examples of pure Nazi architecture left in Germany. Check out the canal system they have at the bottom of the stands, nothing to do with Nazis (it was installed way after), intended to be used in emergencies. Because of pitch invasions there was a small moat added to the stadium, in-between the pitch and stand, intended to keep people away from the action. But when the owners realised that this was actually breaking fire safety regulations they decided to install a drawbridge system which can be lowered using a special button during times of emergency.
Fans can then flood onto the pitch, and presumably away from whatever the problem is.
Why should I go
Because it's one of the few remaining pieces of Nazi architecture left in Germany
