To really get to know a city you really have to be introduced to it by a local, preferably one that's super friendly, and likes jumping around whilst they're telling you really interesting things. Because watching someone else jump around is almost as enjoyable as jumping around, and interesting things by their own admission...are interesting.
Take Brewer's Berlin, take one of their legendary walking tours. The company has been running for over 20 years, led by the highly regarded elderly English gentleman Terry Brewer, recommended by every guide book under the sun, a tour with Brewer's is a quintessential Berlin experience. And seen as though they're all such lovely people, they'd decided to offer their walking tours for free, although it's always polite to tip the tour guide at the end.
As that's how they get paid. In a city as brimming with historical fancy as Berlin there's little chance you'll get bored. If you're really brave you might even want to ask the tour guide about the Friedrichstrasse swan story, but be warned, it's not for the faint hearted.
Why should I goBecause history was never this fun in school
WhereMeets daily outside the Bandy Brookes Ice Cream shop next to Friedrichstrasse Station at 1pm.
